A safari trailer ride through Illawonga's 1800 Acre Mallee Reserve.

TOPICS OF DISCUSSION.

1]  BIRDS AND ANIMALS OF THE MURRAY MALLEE.

2]  WHY DID THE EARLY SETTLERS CLEAR THE MALLEE TREES?

3]  HOW HAS CLEARING THE MALLEE EFFECTED SALINITY LEVELS IN THE MURRAY RIVER?

Illawonga offers a beautiful 1800 acre mallee reserve which has been allowed to regenerate free from the pressures of farming, for over 20 years. The property is home to hundreds of wombats and kangaroos and a host of native bird species. Students will be guided through an interpretive program explaining why the early settlers cleared the mallee trees and what effects this has had on Murray River.
